Xenosaga III: Battle Habits
Let's take a look at her "unique" habits during battle. There's no intro animation for battles, so MOMO comes into battle like she's been fighting the whole time. Her default animation is probably the most interesting for all characters. Most characters like KOS-MOS or Shion simply breathe in and out when nothing is selected. MOMO, however, reverts back to Episode I and sways her body around, shifting her weight from her left foot to right foot. She holds her Ether Bow behind her with her left hand, swaying it around as well. MOMO's right hand also glides from left to right, almost as if she's conducting an orchestra (although I suspect it's a "ready to cast ether" position).
MOMO's Episode II weapon, the Ether Bow, returns for the final installment of the trilogy, with its appearance changing depending on which Ether Bow you have equipped. However, she is no longer the first character to "break the 1000 damage mark," as many people like to put it. Her normal "Attack" function, called "True Shot" is probably the weakest of all characters.
Many of MOMO's battle habits are standardized. When she casts an ether, she simply waves her hand like she's using the force. Also, when she uses a Tech Attack, a black orb surrounds her. Like any other character, she simply gets up when revived and jumps in from no where when swapped in. She even just throws her hand up orthodoxly when using an item.
The two new systems of Revenge and Counter are where MOMO looks really cool. Even though they look cool, it's important to remember that MOMO's strength in these attacks are relatively weak unless you buy her the best of weapons whenever available. Revenge occurs occasionally when a character gets hit. When it activates, the character strikes back at the enemy. MOMO's Revenge attack is called "Revenge Shot." When she gets hit, you see a sort of dark look with her hat covering her eyes a little more than usual. MOMO then looks up and shoots an arrow back. Counter is the same as Revenge except it occurs when a character dodges an attack. MOMO's counter attack is "Robin Shot," which looks pretty much the same except there's no dark look from MOMO.
Even though we never want to see this, MOMO starts breathing heavily, looks down, and stops swaying when her HP is in critical. If she exits battle like this, she will skip her battle victory pose, staying in this manner. Normally though, MOMO brings both hands up and adjusts her hat before pulling her arms back down.
Overall, Xenosaga III is a mix between the detailedness of Episode I and then simplifiedness of Episode II. MOMO has some interesting habits, but what she does is not completely unique, often having the same animations for two or three tech attacks. Still, it is fun to see the sort of things MOMO does while in battle.
